Science 1 Research Center is one of UConn’s largest and most technologically advanced facilities, with some 198,000 square feet dedicated to research, teaching, and core laboratories; a new 240-seat active-learning room designed to engage students more dynamically than traditional lecture halls; and faculty offices, public spaces, administrative support offices, and informal gathering places.

(formerly Laurel Hall), McHugh Hall is located in the heart of UConn Storrs Campus, 372 Fairfield Way (pedestrians only) off of Hillside Road, in back of the Student Union.

Centrally located on the academic corridor, Lawrence D. McHugh Hall (formerly Laurel Hall, Classroom Building) hosts a variety of courses in bright and modern space. The LEED Gold Certified facility has 17 technologically advanced classrooms of various sizes and two auditoria (200 and 400 seats). The ‘green’ aspects of the building include energy efficient lighting, high-performance insulation, swaths of natural light and roof plantings to reduce run off.

Parking and Directions
Guests staying at the on-campus hotel should use hotel parking lot. All parking on campus is by permit or payment for hourly parking ONLY. North Parking Garage is most convenient for SIP 2026 venues. South Parking Garage is a great option, too. Surface lots marked with “P” are for employees and those without permits will be ticketed. For more info, visit UConn Parking website. UConn uses PaybyPhone app or kiosk. Parking payment must be made upon entry for the expected duration of the visit.

Helpful Tips When Visiting Campus

Recommended attire is business casual. We do recommend that you dress in layers, as temperatures in meeting rooms can vary. Comfortable shoes are also recommended for navigating campus.

Bring an umbrella, as the weather may vary during your stay.

There are water-bottle filling stations throughout campus, so bring yours! Can’t find a filling station? Ask one of your UConn hosts!
